What A Showman...

By chance, I came across a video of Tom Waits on Letterman the other day. Tom Waits had been a name I'd heard quite a bit, and everything said about him was pretty ecstatic. So I was discovering Waits that day, and I'm slowly catching onto his greatness.

His voice is awesome and unlike any other. Raspy and deep and all weird. Or as critic Dan Durcholz says, his voice sounds "like it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months, and then taken outside and run over with a car."

This performance of 'Chocolate Jesus' below, from Letterman, put me over the top. The man is a frickin' showman. Just simply watching him is crazy compelling. Who else can work a room that well?
